A rorschach test is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both . . . It can be employed to detect underlying thought disorders, especially in cases where patients are reluctant to describe their thinking processes openly. - Gacano, Carl B. Meloy, J. Reid (1994). The Rorschach Assessment of Aggressive and Psychopathic Personalities.

1. Tim made 9 images (these are kind of open ended like inkblots - see below)

2. Daniel Saks wrote 9 song structures on guitar based on the images (kind of like a person responds to inkblots).

3. Tim wrote words, recorded singing (with support from Yatta, Antonia Lazar, and Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond), and added more music (kind of like a psychologist interprets patient responses)

4. Tim made time lapse animation drawings (with technical/motion graphics help from Kate Freer) - furthering the stories/issues that came to light during songwriting process.

“Like therapy, the making of this project was a long term collaborative process between myself and guitarist Daniel Saks. I trusted Dan to create song structures that would open up pathways to emotional breakthroughs. Dan trusted me to interpret his song structures honestly, and without judgement. This blind trust manifested a unique creative process, making it possible to bypass a conscious voice, and channel a subconscious voice. When I listen back to these songs, I am shocked by this subconscious voice. I do not like what this voice has to say. It is the voice of a broken past, a sick present, and a nonexistent future. It is the voice of an unstable hateful creature that knows it must die, but refuses to die. It is the voice of a domestic terrorist who mistakenly believes the original american lie - that white men with guns are intrinsically powerful. The more I channeled this  voice, the more I began to realize that it unfortunately whispers in the heart of every american - reeking havoc through misinformation and problematic context. Whether we choose to hear it or not, this poisonous whisper is driving our nation to division, drugs, depression, cognitive dissonance, delusion and ultimately death. My hope is that Roar Shack might be a means of addressing this voice, so that it can someday be silenced once and for all.” - Tim Fite
